4 Ways to Get Your Home Ready for Summer Storms

Summer storms can come on fast and cause some serious damage if you’re not prepared. But our summer storm checklist has you covered! Here’s how you can be sure your house and family are prepared to weather the elements:

1. Roof

  • Inspect the roof for loose, damaged, or missing shingles.
  • Clear any debris, such as leaves or branches, from the roof.
  • Check for signs of leaks or water damage in the attic or ceiling.

2. Siding

  • Examine the siding for cracks, holes, or loose panels.
  • Clean the siding to remove dirt, mold, or mildew buildup.
  • Ensure that the siding is securely attached to the house.

3. Windows

  • Check the seal around the windows for any gaps or cracks.
  • Inspect window screens for tears or damage.
  • Ensure windows open and close properly, and consider applying weatherstripping if needed.

4. Extras

  • Check and clear gutters and downspouts of leaves, twigs, and debris.
  • Secure or store outdoor furniture, grills, and other equipment.
  • Trim tree branches near the house.
  • Prepare an emergency kit that includes flashlights, batteries, non-perishable food, water, a first aid kit, and other essential items.
  • Identify a safe area in your house where you can seek shelter during a storm.
